Descendants of Hanse (John Jr.) Chrysler
 

Edwin Chrysler, the son of Hanse (John, Jr.) and Rachel Outman was born in Lodi Tp., Washtenaw Co., Michigan. At the age of 18 Edwin came down the Grand River to Kent County where he met and married Lucy Ann Bancroft in 1859. They first settled near Haire's Landing in Jenison where their first two children were born, and then moved to another area of Georgetown Township. Here they built a log cabin on 40 acres on Fillmore Street, and had seven more children between 1865-1884.
Edwin was reported to be an expert hunter, lumberman and farmer. He floated large rafts of logs down the Grand River to the Edwards Lumber Company in Grand Haven. Edwin and Lucy Ann later bought 80 acres of land on the north side of Fillmore Street. There they built a frame house in 1888 on the west 40 acres and the Chrysler School was built on a spot on the east 40 acres, just east of 42nd Avenue. It was here that the Chrysler children attended school. The school was also used for worship services on Sundays, and Edwin taught the adult Bible class. Edwin died in 1908, and Lucy remained on the farm until she died in 1923. Both are buried in the Georgetown Cemetery.

Fred Chrysler was born in a log cabin in Georgetown Township in 1867. He attended the Chrysler School on the northeast corner of Fillmore Street and 42nd Avenue. Then he worked on the family farm and in the logging business. In 1901, Fred bought 20 acres of land on Lincoln Street, east of 12th Avenue in Section14 of Tallmadge Township. While working his land he met and married Grace Idella Cross in 1903. She was the daughter of James Alson Cross and Anna Gould. The Cross family lived at the southwest corner of Lincoln Street and 14th Avenue. Their first home was fashioned out of two facing corn cribs. They lived in this home for five years and their son Ray Freeman was born there. In 1908 when Fred's father died, Fred and Della built a home on his mother's farm in Georgetown Township next to the cabin in which he was born. He helped his mother run the farm. In 1917 Fred and Della moved back to Tallmadge Township and bought the 58 acre Voss farm on 14th Avenue in Section 14. They farmed until 1928 when they sold the farm to a Lipski family and moved to Grand Rapids. Fred died that same year and Della lived until 1972. They are buried in the Marne Cemetery.
