OHN1 FLETCHER was born Jun 29, 1777 in NY? Irish (Source: Page from Book belonging to John Fletcher dated 1821.), and died Mar 30, 1842 in Grantham Township, Lincoln County, Ontario Canada. He married ELIZABETH PATE? in Philadelphia. She was born Feb 27, 1773 in Irish, and died Mar 13, 1856 in Grantham Township, Lincoln County, Ontario Canada.John and Elizabeth went to Canada via Philadelphia and settled in Grantham Township, Lincoln County, part Lots 13, 14, 15 and the Broken Front on Lake Ontario, within sight of the Welland Canal. John served in the First Lincoln Militia and with DeWattville’s Regiment in the War of 1812. He was present at the Battle of Lundy’s Lane, Chippewa and Queenston Heights as well as Fort Erie. His stepson, David Wood was with him. After the war’s end, John made a claim for losses, which was found in the National Achieves, for a pair of horses and a wagon lost at Fort Erie. David was sent to the Niagara River to obtain water. Apparently there was gunfire and the horses were spooked and jumped into the water and drowned. John’s claim was disallowed because the authorities said it was David’s fault for not having the horses under control. Their property left family ownership in 1889.

He married CATHERINE AMANDA COX 1859 in Ottawa County, MI, daughter of RICHARD COX and PHILENA TIBBET. She was born Nov 24, 1839 in Northampton Township, Summit County, OH, and died Apr 09, 1907 in Olive Township, Ottawa County, Michigan.Notes for H
IEL ALFRED FLETCHER:Hiel and James walked by blaze trail from Canada to Michigan. They slept in the loft of another pioneers cabin the first winter of 1855. In 1855, carpenters by trade, they helped build the first Michigan capital building (still trying to prove). In order to register for the Civil War draft he walked an additional 36 miles to Grand Rapids. Hiel and James were among the first pioneers in Ottawa Station in the Pigeon River Area. Hiel paid $75.00 for 80 acres of land in Ottawa county on December 1, 1860 at the Ionia Land Office. Pigeon Creek crossed Hiel’s homestead. The home Hiel built still stands (as of 1975) but the porch has been enclosed and the whole house covered with siding. Catherine died in April of 1907 and Hiel died in September of the same year of what his daughter Worthy said was a broken heart.
